|RV, Private Campgrounds, Rustic Lodging
in the Kinzua Lake Region
The Kinzua region is more than just a half a million acres of national
woods. We also have state parks and a multitude of private camping
and rustic lodging opportunities.
Whether you are looking for total wilderness, the hike of a lifetime, or a
great outdoor place for a family vacation, or just a place to go fly fishing
or mountain biking, the Allegheny High Plateau region has campground
opportunities for any adventure, at any time of the year. Many prefer
winter for hiking because of the improved views, but the fall colors
(which start at the end of October) can be spectacular. Seasonally,
boaters and paddlers will find a wealth of services including two
full-service marinas, canoe livery and rental services, and plenty of
launches. Hiking trails include the North Country Trail and many short
paths for all abilities. Signature destinations include Kinzua Lake,
Rimrock, Bent Run Waterfalls, Jakes Rocks, and Wilderness Islands.
Nearby Warren, Pennsylvania (pop. 9,700) features a plethora of goods
and services for a town of its size, including a shopping mall with movie
theater, a WalMart shopping center, and downtown amenities including
an Allegheny Outfitters, a bookstore, coffee shops, a
nationally-recognized library, two first-rate motels (Holiday Inn and
Hampton Inn), one of the state's best YMCAs, a public pool, and lots of
Victorian architecture and pre-Civil War homes. Try to get a tour of the
Struthers Theatre--it's one of the oldest Opera Houses in the country
and it is completely restored. It offers top drama, musicals, art films, and
